The Book of Acts Chapter 5 Verses 17 thru 26
17 Then the high priest rose up and all his companions, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and, filled with jealousy, 18 laid hands upon the apostles and put them in the public jail. 19 But during the night, the angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison, led them out, and said,20 “Go and take your place in the temple area, and tell the people everything about this life.” 21 When they heard this, they went to the temple early in the morning and taught. When the high priest and his companions arrived, they convened the Sanhedrin, the full senate of the Israelites, and sent to the jail to have them brought in. 22 But the court officers who went did not find them in the prison, so they came back and reported, 23 “We found the jail securely locked and the guards stationed outside the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside.” 24 When they heard this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests were at a loss about them, as to what this would come to. 25 Then someone came in and reported to them, “The men whom you put in prison are in the temple area and are teaching the people.” 26 Then the captain and the court officers went and brought them in, but without force, because they were afraid of being stoned by the people.
In Acts 5:17-26, we witness the early church facing persecution as the religious leaders, filled with jealousy they arrest the apostles for preaching the gospel. However, God intervenes in a miraculous way—an angel of the Lord opens the prison doors, releasing them to continue their mission of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. This passage beautifully illustrates the divine protection and power that accompany those who are faithful to God's calling.
The apostles, despite the threats and imprisonment, were unwavering in their commitment to proclaiming the salvation found in Jesus. Their boldness offers an inspiring reminder that true courage comes from a heart surrendered to God. Even when faced with adversity, their faith remained steadfast; they recognized that their ultimate purpose was to share the transformative message of Christ.
As you reflect on this passage, consider the significance of surrendering your soul to Jesus. Just as the apostles experienced a miraculous release and empowerment, you too can experience profound change in your life. Surrendering to Christ means accepting His gift of salvation, which liberates us from the chains of sin and despair. When we yield our will to Him, we open ourselves to His miracles—both in our lives and through us to others.
Embrace the invitation to trust Jesus with your heart. He is ready and waiting to enfold you in His loving grace. Just as the apostles were called to preach boldly despite their circumstances, you too can embrace a life filled with purpose and hope. Transformation and true freedom are found in surrendering yourself to Christ. May you experience the joyous miracles of salvation, living a life anchored in faith and guided by His love. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. Ephesians 6:17-20
04-30-25 Acts 5 v1726
**Afraid of Being Stoned by the People**
In shadows deep, the leaders stand,
With envy fierce, their hearts demand,
The apostles bold, in chains they lay,
Yet heaven’s power lights the way.
An angel came, with grace and might,
To free the heralds of the light,
“Go forth,” he said, “do not delay,
Proclaim the truth, don’t turn away.”
Through prison doors, their spirits soared,
To share the love of Christ adored,
In every heart, a spark ignites,
A message loud that darkness fights.
The council met, in anger brewed,
“How dare they preach?” their threat pursued,
Yet fearless voices rang out clear,
For where there’s Christ, there’s naught to fear.
Surrendered souls, they bear the flame,
In every whisper, they praise His name,
For miracles bloom where faith abounds,
In every beat, true freedom sounds.
So let us heed the call today,
In trust and love, we find our way,
For in our hearts, His grace restores,
And through His power, we’re free to adore! Amen.
